The Bligh Museum
  Located on the waterfront of Adventure Bay, this small themed museum is dedicated to the famous Captain Bligh of the Mutiny on the Bounty fame.  On display are many historical maps, documents paintings and other artefacts
There is a small section devoted to the Aboriginals. Truganini was a member of a tribe from the island. There is a section associating Fuchs, Hilary, Scott, Mawson and Amundsen.  Built in 1954 with some convict made bricks brought from kiln at Variety Bay, North Bruny. The foundation stone was laid on 9th September 1955 - 200th anniversary of Captain William Bligh's birth.

 The Bruny Island History Room  
  Entry is free to the Bruny History Collection housed in the Court House Building.   A large achieve of Bruny life, its people and its history.   Sit in comfort and brows the Life of this historic island, its early explorers: Cook, Furneaux and many others.  Open Seven days a week from 10am to 3 pm
Allow a lot more time than you think!  this facility is full of interest!

 Captain Cook information board     
  This information board and Plaque is located at the far southern end of Adventure Bay.  Cook is also mentioned on the formal memorial located in the centre of Adventure Bay, an image of which is shown below in the article about Furneaux

 

 

 

 
   

 Captain Bligh     
  Resolution and Discovery entering Adventure BayBligh of 'Mutiny on the Bounty' fame - visited Bruny Island several times and is said to have planted the first fruit trees in Australia at Adventure Bay. He first arrived as sailing master on Cook's ship the 'Resolution'.

 Furneaux and Cook  Memorial   - Foreshore - Main Road  Adventure Bay

 
  This memorial was erected in 1961 to commemorate the first landing on Bruny by a European being Lt. Tobias Furneaux, Captain of the Adventure and the subsequent landing by Capt James Cook in 1777.

The lower plaque was placed to commemorate the visit of the replica ship, the Endeavour which visited Adventure Bay in 1994

 

 

 
   

 Captain Kelly information board  
  This information board is located at Dennes Point on North Bruny close to the recreation and beach BBQ

Capt. James Kelly was at one time or another, harbourmaster of Hobart Town, a whaler based on Bruny Island, the first to circumnavigate Tasmania ( in an open whale boat), the discoverer of Maquarie Harbour on the west coast of Tasmania -together with Sarah Island (later to become an infamous penal colony) and the stands of Huon pine in that area.  He and his family, who all seemed to die tragically, are buried in St David's Park in Hobart.
